Since joining Hardiman & Carroll, Mr. Carroll’s litigation practice has emphasized the defense of contractors, developers and other construction professionals. Having worked in the construction field for four years during high school and college, he brings construction knowledge not possessed by many practitioners.
Mr. Carroll began his legal career specializing in professional liability defense with an emphasis in representing attorneys and real estate professionals. He authored appellate briefs and second-chaired the remand trial in Ramirez v. Sturdevant, 21 Cal.App.4th 904, a seminal case in the area of legal ethics. During this time, he also authored “To Report or Not Report – State Bar Reporting Requirements,” Legal Malpractice Report (1994) and co-authored “Questionable Tactics – Avoiding Litigation Suits,” ABA Journal, March 1995. He lectured frequently to lawyers and various professionals concerning risk management and loss prevention issues.
Mr. Carroll received the Wiley M. Manuel award from the State Bar of California for outstanding pro bono services for his work for the non-profit Legal Services for Children. He holds an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell and is listed in the Bar Register of Pre-Eminent Lawyers. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the Bar Association of California and a lifetime member of California Waterfowl Association.
Mr. Carroll received his J.D. degree from the University of California, Boalt Hall School of Law in Berkeley in 1989. He was also a member of the Law Review and received multiple Moot Court honors, including Best Brief.
Mr. Carroll received a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude in English from California State University at Sacramento in 1986. While at CSUS, he was the founding President of the first pre-law chapter of the national legal fraternity Phi Alpha Delta.
During his last two years of college, he worked for the federal government as an editor and copy writer, and was promoted to Acting Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation in Sacramento, regularly giving print and radio interviews on behalf of the Bureau.
In recent years Mr. Carroll has been guest lecturing at St. Mary’s University in the areas of ethics and language. In his spare time, Mr. Carroll enjoys playing golf, hunting, fishing, fine wines and gourmet food.
