Mr. Hardiman conducts an active civil litigation practice emphasizing construction, insurance coverage, bad faith and business litigation. He is an experienced trial lawyer, having tried more than 60 cases. Mr. Hardiman has handled several matters resulting in published opinions, including: Lockery v. Kayfetz [inverse condemnation]; Trauner v. Richards [malicious prosecution]; Armstrong v. Aetna Casualty [insurance coverage]; Smith v. Clarendon National Insurance Company [insurance bad faith]; and Butler v. Clarendon America Insurance Company [insurance bad faith].
For more than 25 years Mr. Hardiman has represented individuals and corporations, policyholders and insurance companies, and public entities. He is active in assisting in dispute resolution, acting as a mediator, judge pro tem and discovery dispute referee.
Mr. Hardiman is the author of several articles, including “Risk Management: Negligent Supervision Claims,” ABA Nonprofit Journal (Spring 1998); “Directors and Officers Coverage for Nonprofits,” Institute of Risk Management (May 1997); “Legal Issues Peculiar to Non-Profit Organizations,” Non-profits and the law. (Spring 1997), “Insurance Coverage for Wrongful Discharge Claims,” Legal Malpractice Report (May 1994); “Estate Planning Malpractice Issues,” Legal Malpractice Report (August 1994), and several bulletins on insurance coverage, issues and trends.
Mr. Hardiman frequently lectures on insurance coverage, insurance claims handling and risk management to professionals and insurers. He is a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco, the American Bar Association, and the Tort and Insurance Practice subsection for litigation and insurance.
Mr. Hardiman received a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from the University of Washington in 1977 and his J.D. degree in 1982 from Golden Gate University.
