Michael Hardiman founded the firm in 1993 after leaving a large 120 lawyer law firm. He knew from his 15 years of prior experience representing several insurance carriers that those carriers wanted a different type of law firm to service their needs, and one that did not carry the burdens and costs inherent in a large firm structure. He also knew his vast experience in both insurance coverage and civil litigation (over 50 trials) positioned him uniquely to provide superior service to the insurance industry.

Gerald Carroll joined Mr. Hardiman in 1995, leaving the same large firm and seeking the challenges of building a business enterprise from the ground up. More importantly, he wanted to try cases. Though he had taken cases to trial far earlier than most lawyers of his age, he recognized the infrequency of such opportunities in a large firm.

Together, Mr. Hardiman and Mr. Carroll have built a law firm unique in its approach to litigation: they place far more emphasis on resolving cases and closing files than on litigating cases for the sake of generating their fees. They learned early on that the more files they closed for their clients, the more cases those clients sent to them to handle. This approach has generated client loyalty, client trust and client relationships that have lasted since the day Hardiman & Carroll was formed.
